ASUMI MAEDA
JAPANESE, BORN 19TH MARCH 1994
REINCARNATION
New life sprouts in Spring and creatures wake up from their winter sleep. Summer is filled with colors and energy. In autumn, plants wither and animals store nutrients for the cold months ahead. During winter snow falls and most of life goes to sleep. Asumi lives in Hokkaido, Japan’s largest island, known for its rich variety of ecosystems and vast reserves of untouched nature. Her collection wants to portray this richness by creating entirely new kinds of plants, named “fluid friends”, staging the seasonal transitions she experiences at home. They make up this romantic jungle consisting of materials which aren’t representative of life at all. However, since they are filled with all of the passion of her creative process, they inevitably have a soul - and therefore a life - already.
